The Importance of Hair and Muscle structure and tone in Spirituality, for sensing and working with The Breath (Qi)

Recommended Posts

#1 how important is long haid hear in sensing qi?

I have many sensations when doing primordial gatherings on my body hair, today the first time on my chest. the other days hands, underams and shoulders. All where I have hair. It was like an electric sensation that made the molecules.. the 'air' around my body.. more tangible.

Can qi be felt without body hair, on such external layers like the surface of the skin?

#2 how important is muscle tone, muscle structure in sensing and lateron working with the flow of qi? Is a well exercised muscle structure of an individual doing yoga (or kungfu-like workouts) better suited for moving qi as of an individual never caring for any of the external form?

We can leave body fat out of the context, since it is very hindering due to being a very poor conductor, no doubt. I am asking this question because I am yet about to discover how qi is directed through our muscles. I always was fascinated by the human muscular structure, so that is why.

I came across an article about sensing and long hair, from research back in Vietnam.

Also you might want to read the comments down below in this article.

Head hair makes much sense to me on the effect of external channellings. But why the beard? When we look back at egypts, they were completely bald. Especially the prophets. None of them had hair, what so ever. They were closely related to Sirius, the Sirians with their perfect, holy geometry. We have many cultures on the planet who never had facial hair, men.

Just look at why so many males get a bald spot on their crown when aging. Why do monks have a tonsur, their crown spot bald? Or why in india wrapped and rolled up, knotted ontop of the crown? Similar to many popular asian ways of wearing hair, also for males, knotting them on the crown.

Hairstyle is by far not something superficial. Did any of you males, growing body hair check out the flow of your stomach hair? I let mine fully grown and it connects from the sexual center up, from the upper chest down and spirals into the navel. Why ever wanting to cut this off?

Anyway, so much for the hairy part of the question.

What about muscle structure to better direct Qi? How much is too much/less?

An interesting point.

I am no longer in the first flush of youth and whilst the hair on my head has thinned with age so my body hair has increased - leaving me resembling an aging mountain gorilla. I now cut whats left of my head hair right down to the canvas as it looks less sad that way than if I effected the dreaded comb over.

These studies regarding long hair and special abilities fall down when the question of baldness arises. Some racial groups are more prone to male pattern baldness than others. This also goes for body hair. White and black races tend towards baldness whilst Asian and Oriental races do not seem to lose head hair to male pattern baldness in the same way. The same can be said of body hair with the Asian and Oriental races having far less than those of Northern European descent.

Now nature is not concerned with fairness but are we really saying that a person would lose psychic or sensory abilities if the hair on their head thinned or fell out?

I have now practiced the Taoist Arts for twenty two years and when I started I had a full head of thick hair. As it has gradually thinned my abilities of sensing chi have gradually increased. This has nothing to do with my head hair but rather more to do with the practice of my art over a long period of time. The same can be said of my strength and athletic abilities as these have also grown as my hair lessened. Again this is due to my lifestyle and exercise regimen rather than my visits to the barber.

To sum up it may well be true that our hair does effect the energy body in subtle ways but let us not think for one moment that hair or lack of it will hold us back from development in the energetic arts.

My tuppence worth.

You're doing your body a great favor in not being sarcastic or cynical about anything what grows on it. Since we have already much to sort out in our unconscious. Cherishing and uplifting what belongs to your body helps a lot. Your hair is holy.

Yes, the question with Buddhism also came to my mind. But then again, who is behind the Dalai Lama? The Dalai Lama is just the president, representing what is. Do really all buddhist, especially the priests, cut all their hair? Or do they wear similar hats to those of egyptian priests and Especially pharaos, who developed headgear (or actually had a larger backpart of their skull hiding underneath of such an appartus) that extended their being more upward.

Just like the Burka, turkish females have to wear to completely undergo censureship of their entirety. This all is symbolism and we are yet about to discover how powerful symbolism is. And how we then will throw out all of our clothing, with symbols on the straight into the garbage. Because everyday we channel these energies into our being. And at the end of the day, our being consists of it. And if our entire body is the cosmos, then we give a certain aspect in the universe tremendous power by wearing these symbols, since this aspect (entity, collective) designed these symbols and brought them into the physical reality. To have a place of power here.

This goes deep!

White and black races tend towards baldness whilst Asian and Oriental races do not seem to lose head hair to male pattern baldness in the same way. The same can be said of body hair with the Asian and Oriental races having far less than those of Northern European descent.

Black races tend towards baldness? Not all of them. Those who hunt, are bald. The priests and the women Always have "dreadlocks". Yes, black people tended to go towards bald, male and female towards straight hair, when they were shipped overseas and had to undergo slavery. They were forced to fit in, to live a basic lifestyle, so they adapted the outside look of an average American of that day.

Now nature is not concerned with fairness but are we really saying that a person would lose psychic or sensory abilities if the hair on their head thinned or fell out?

Oh yes of course, there is written word I came across that said that one goes mad when being bald and esposed longer durations to the sun. Mad in this case, because he or she channels so much different aspects, the lower mind (which only can go mad) then is unable to properly process. I see no problem with being bald and perfectly rooted.

Here we are in Buddhism again: What if they make their purpose so true, by shaving all their head, that they dont get distracted? Major practices IN Buddhism is to root yourself FULLY first and foremost! Everyday!

And I know from Saddhu-hood, that initiates have to cut all their hair and then from the first day of practice are allowed to grow their hair. To channel the appropriate energies along their teachings.

Yes, hair might be a helpful tool but it is in no shape or form replace any sort of practice. Taoist always had long hair and beard, right?

PS: Speaking about females and their hair these days. Noticed how much chemicals they use? And how much heat? You can say that most women living a lifestyle heavily focused on the outside, with regular barber visits, have dead hair.

PPS: Yet another very interesting article about Native Americans and the importance of long hair in spirituality.

Another important aspect of hair I have come across:

If you look carefully you will notice that head-shaving is a part of the Buddhist, Christian, Muslim, Jain and Hindu traditions. Buddhist and Christian generally undergo some form of head-shaving during their ordination. Bhramin children have their heads ritualistically shaved before beginning school.

And Buddhists shave their heads around full moon, meanwhile let their hair grown. From my current experience, this has something to do with cycles. I am very new to cycles, so I can not speak about the greater picture here. Very new to doing daily cycles in all of what I do aswell. Primordial Qigong is teaching me.

Shave your head and you stay childlike? While at the same time it uproots you? Like childs are? They are subject to all influences. Cutting the ambilical cord is their first un-rooting. The next thing is they grow hair.

Rooting, rooting, rooting. Is it all about rooting and earth connection?

I'm glad somebody brought this up :)

I see hair as playing a crucial role in spirituality ... In fact all of our physical form does, however especially so with hair and bones.

Like the examples you mentioned with religious takes on hair ... Also the story of Sampson, his power came from his hair.

Since I first starting shaving I would feel weakened and fatigued about an hour after. There's also the relationship to masturbation - excessive ejaculation leads to hairloss in men. When cut, our bodies must again build up physical form to replace what was chopped off.

Hair grows to a certain length and stops in most people... There seems to be a predetermined length, but in relation to what?

Someody else mentioned the increase in body hair in balding men.

I was balding previously but thankfully I've managed to reverse the process. I'm looking forward to a head full if hair again...I'm going to grow it out fully this time and treat it with a lot more respect.

You should market your system as it will undoubtably make you a fortune.

Still in the early stages but there's visible growth all over the top... Only thing is my hair is naturally very fine and blonde, so it takes twice as long to become noticeable (as apposed to someone with dark thick hair)

Tbh apart from a better diet, my key for everything is intent. If you can manipulate Qi, talking to the physical parts of your body should be even easier...after all it's our minds that ultimately control what our bodies are doing.

Someone I spoke to about this before mentioned a supplement "saw palmetto" but I haven't tried it yet... I also recommend fish liver oil (personally I take 3000mg)

Very glad You brought this up!

Now I can make conscious connections indeed. I have stopped shaving my genital area after a while I got relaxed with my girlfriend and she is totally okay with it, since she knows my hygiene is very pleasant to her vision of hygiene. My interest in masturbation and porn in general dropped rapidly in the previous months, since the 1x in 1-2weeks bedtime with her is totally fulfilling for the both of us. So like with many things you just do unconscious, lack the knowledge of connections, I can not say if cutting hair helps naturally stepping away/losing interest in said selfish sexual activities.

Hair grows to a certain length and stops in most people... There seems to be a predetermined length, but in relation to what?

Does it really? I know that saying and people tend to say this. But I figured out most likely those individuals dont have a vision on how long their hair should grow or fixating too harsh on wanting longer hair, that they energetically suffocate the natural flow to their hair. But I have not observed this enough to give a clear statement.

Also: What if the lenght of your hair determines your spiritual capability? The most important factor for healthy and long hair are hormones. And hormones these days are a huge imbalance factor for the majority of modern people.

I was balding previously but thankfully I've managed to reverse the process. I'm looking forward to a head full if hair again...I'm going to grow it out fully this time and treat it with a lot more respect.

Wonderful to hear. Respect has a great energetic importance to it. Happy discoverings and all the best to your hair growth!

Pro-tip for growing thick hair and loads of it? Truly easy and you dont need any supplements. You just need to get into proper cycles. That means eating healthy organic food in moderation, exercise and meditation in moderation. Everything in moderation.

The key factor is going to sleep when the sun goes down, waking up when it goes up. Generally from 9pm to 12pm your DNA gets repaired and enhanced. Between 12-1am to 3-4am your hormones get replenished. When was the last time you had a good morning wood when you woke up? That is a the perfect sign of a good load of nightly testosterone.

And now you know why progress is so less these days, when people mostly watch TV all night and then cant barely get into regeneration phase due to their bodies need to digest food they ate too late -or- repair the huge amount of damage of living a totally unrespectful and imbalanced lifestyle.

Growth happens when everything is stable. Healthy. Regenerated. Repairs need to be made, then the body can rejuvenate and then growth happens and cosmic Updates come naturally. Possible maybe for 1-2% of the entire human population, at the moment? :)

In what manner?

Keep in mind that I did not make this thread if hair is good or bad, right or wrong. I made this thread purely with the intention to discover the Functionality of Hair.

Form follows Function. We live in a world full of form, where function is next to nothing and wants to be rediscovered and properly utilized.

See, that's the strange part, isn't it. I can feel an energetic connection but then when we look at accomplished wise men, many are bald. I read somewhere before that baldness was once seen as a sign of maturity and intelligence.. Not that you couldn't be both while still having hair.

Why do we have hair at all? From an evolutionary viewpoint it doesn't seem to have any real usefulness, except for protecting our skin from the elements perhaps and pulling out unwanted substances from our system.. (But when is the last time your pubic hair got any sunshine haha)

Some sects believe hair has the ability to receive energy, acting as an antenna... Thus they gather they're hair in a bun at the crown to direct the flow.

This is just me typing out thoughts here.. Could all be wrong.

Believing that hair is important to cultivation is just 'spiritual materialism'.

But how are you so sure? There's two sides to every story. Denying something outright is ignorance. Even if you have experienced cultivation with and without hair, there's a chance you were doing it wrong. How about some facts and experience. Edited by Silent Answers

It's as much cultural as anything else.

The spiritual big hitters I mentioned are as bald as peas but if you check out their Orthodox Christian opposite numbers ...

https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=Orthodox+monks+images&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=jjTKU_PXLceA7QaM2YGICA&ved=0CBsQsAQ&biw=1024&bih=644

... those beardy coves could be out of Duck Dynasty.

Apropos Duck Dynasty, those Robertson men are very hairy yet deeply spiritual in their own way.

There are Duck Dynasty devotional books aimed at their particular faith-path market.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Duck-Commander-Devotional-Dynasty/dp/1471133737/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1405761576&sr=8-1&keywords=Duck+Dynasty+devotional

As for musculature there are those emaciated Buddha statues beloved of the 'no food after 11am' paths on the one hand and on the other we see those maitreya-model fat laughing Buddha statues that the Chinese love.

There's a Forest Sangha centre not far from us , they only eat one meal a day and, quite frankly; one of the young English 'convert' chaps there needs a few good hot dinners inside of him

He look looks distinctly ill. They are forever advertising for caretaker/cooks in the local newpaper no one seems to stay there long apart from the two ( rather camp) Thai monk guys who own and operate it.

Western zennists by comparison are great trenchermen and women, they love a good meal or several.

Anyone who has ever driven any distance in the USA with western zennist travelling companions will be no stranger to the inside of Taco Bells and Ponderosa Steak Houses ( all you can eat salad and ice cream bars- free steak if you can prove that it is your birthday).

Those Zen dudes out west can't seem to pass a Ponderosa without them calling in.

I need to start watching history channel again haha.. I only caught a few episodes of the duck dynasty series :P

How kind.

There's always a pot of tea and cake here for visitors and once we move to the seaside I reckon we'll have a steady stream of those popping in.

The week we were house hunting up there and rented a cottage we hosted three lots of Mrs GMPs chums ' just passing by'.

Seaside seems to attract visitors like jam does flies..

:)

Been a while since I was in China.

Our school is affiliated to the official PRC QiGong 'authority' so we maintain friendly links.

I do enjoy Duck Dynasty but for down home ' getting in touch with my inner redneck' viewing then for me; it's 'Storage Wars' all the way.

I love that show.

Of course a person can't feel qi in the least without hair. That is, unless the person has no hair, then it doesn't apply.

Just get to where you feel qi in and through every pore of your body and don't worry with this hair thing. Totally meaningless and yes, I had long hair for most of my life and don't now and it doesn't make a bit of difference.

Muscle tonality is good. It is only when muscles are bound that the qi can stagnate.

"... the practice of T'ai-chi ch'uan is the method of storing ch'i. With this method of circulating the ch'i, it overflows into the sinews, reaches the bone marrow, fills the diaphragm, and manifests in the skin and hair. This is truly concentrating the ch'i and developing softness." ("Master Cheng's Thirteen Chapters on T'ai-chi Ch'uan", translated by Douglas Wile, pg 17)

Through the pores, yes, like they was doors.

A monk asked Chao Chou, "The myriad things return to one. Where does the one return to?"

Chou said, "When I was in Ch'ing Chou I made a cloth shirt. It weighed seven pounds."

(Blue Cliff Record, trans. T. & J.C. Cleary, case 45)
