My Path

My world is one of bright brush strokes
and tones of subtle gray,
while you're looking for your starlit city
I'm dancing through the day

did you think you'd find me
and did you think you'd tell
that perhaps one day we'd meet again
on this road between heaven and hell

Nothing far yet nothing near
and nothing that which I hold dear
remains except the moments
that I know that we will share

don't fade away from me my love

I can’t turn from the path I roam

When the night's dark satin

surrounds me like a gown

who will count the minutes while

they put me in the ground

the hundred thousand demons

cry like a million suns

a hundred thousand deities

but I keep my faith in none

Ceaseless nights and aeons

slip too far too fast

I was that dark child wandering

lost to time yet passed

don't fade away from me my love

I can’t turn from the path I roam

Prayer of a Grey Flag

leaves and sleeves and sieves
trees unneeded by the breeze
cascading with truncated cadence
of space encased in circadian
radiance spurred under trance
formation seeking the ally
amongst dusty valleys ringing
in the wings of moths
scrawled on ragged cloth
sustained and entrained
or strained with shame
no blame

cast in bone
honed with stone and shone
in the ponds of moonlit
shades poured from
bucket brigades of bamboo
warriors splintered in terminal
slices of pie spliced with time
and grated with heavenly traces
in the secret places
open wide

sky horses sprayed air
in windy caves spiraling
towards destinations unseen
unheard galloping through
prescient invention
gemstone intention
suspect admission
revealing true essence
unsealing due loose cents
with fury

Oh, it's not life with anguished breath lamented --

what's life and death? -- what I lament is that fire,
whose shining blazed above the whole creation,

that's nightward bound, and weeps on its way out.

-- Afanasy Fet (1820--1892), in my translation

At the still point of the turning world.
Neither flesh nor fleshless;
Neither from nor towards;
at the still point, there the dance is,
But neither arrest nor movement.
And do not call it fixity,
Where past and future are gathered.
Neither movement from nor towards,
Neither ascent nor decline.
Except for the point, the still point,
There would be no dance,
and there is only the dance.

I always wanted to go to East Cliff,
more years than I can remember,
until today I just grabbed a vine
and started up. Halfway up
wind and a heavy mist closed in,
and the narrow path tugged at my shirt:
it was hard to get on. The slickery
mud under the moss on the rocks
gave way, and I couldn’t keep going.
So here I stay, under this cinnamon tree,
white clouds for my pillow,
I’ll just take a nap.

Well, farewell.  Until tomorrow,

the day after, winter time.

Well, farewell till March, till March then,

winter we will meet apart.

Meet apart and say good-bye to.

Well...  farewell till better days.

Until spring.  And eyes are shifty.

Until spring.  And later still.

Well, farewell, farewell till summer.

Fumbling with a glove, no point.

Well, farewell till somehow, somewhere,

sometime later, maybe then.

Pointless, standing in the doorway.

Nothing's more precise than this.

Till the last, the final, deadly

line, farewell.  Beyond it too.

between a cherubim and seraphim

the language barrier shimmers

in the wind, it follows a pattern

in the air, breath of life

look inside

walking on the heads of garbage dwelling

rodents, crushing toe cheese between hangnail

alley cats and cat house spinnerets, funky

bass line popping booty stop drop and rolling

in a deadly kung fu disco party, moves called

as performed, i.e. "donkey punch!" and so forth

purple bruises and throbbing veins begging to be

lanced, teenyboppers hanging posters for fancy lancelots

riding three toed sloths clashing with mighty ocelot

legions scattering hamster wheels to the wind

splashing slogans from infested chemical air wave

pollution, microscopic dust devas, peeking and winking

begging a great seer for another hot spanking

another double penetration, double geyser overload

flipped up, laid down and cold, got to be, baby

electromagnet flow spreads endless pleasure princess

In honor of His Holiness Lungtok Tenpai Nyima, 33rd Menri Trizin during the full moon on the 49th day following his passing.

How marvelous!

Wholeness

of Space

and Clarity

dance a magical display

into which I release and dissolve...

one taste is all it takes...

to get you hooked
baited fish scales pouring from bucket
brigades, shoveling manure piles
digging ditches and planting
snitches, uncracked eggs waiting
to flower in the blue-green house
rambo gunning for his breakfast
shatters glass with running mouse
cheese wheel spinning, oh so holy
swiss miss licking lips and warming
your heart, where the home is
sitting on a donkey backwards
and returning from market
on the hour by the hour with
baked goods, fresh produce
rotting, oh slow slowly
in the hot ass sun

No man is an island,
Entire of itself,
Every man is a piece of the continent,
A part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less.
As well as if a promontory were.
As well as if a manor of thy friend's
Or of thine own were:
Any man's death diminishes me,
Because I am involved in mankind,
And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls;
It tolls for thee.

John Donne
